Barcelona, October 22, 2019.- During the course of Barcelona Meeting Point (BMP), Servihabitat conducted a survey for the sixth straight year, with over 250 visitors taking part and which reflects the concerns of the public who have come to visit the real estate exhibition when purchasing or renting a home.

Respondents preferring the rental purchase option have increased significantly, up from 4% in 2018 to 25% of those searching for apartments this year. Rental has also increased by 4 percentage points, up to 20% this year. Even so, purchasing remains the preferred choice for 42% of attendees interested in housing. This is one of the main conclusions drawn from the survey.

47% have come to the exhibition to purchase or rent their first home, while 25% have come to look for a second home. Those looking for investment opportunities remained at similar levels to last year (9%) while those looking for a second home have increased considerably, from 10% to 19% this year.

Regarding the type of home, those surveyed had equal preference for new builds and second-hand builds: 44% are indifferent to one option or the other when choosing a product, while those who prefer new builds as well as those looking for second-hand housing amount to 28% respectively.

Regarding the time frame for the search process, 76% find their home in less than nine months, a percentage that has increased by more than 10 percentage points compared with last year. And, looking at the intention to purchase or rent a home, in 31% of cases it is immediate.

With regard to the perception of market trends in the current real estate market, the assessment that prices will continue rising is becoming less widespread, (responses decreasing from 42% in 2018 to 33% this year) with a rise of 5 percentage points in those believing that they will start to go down, up to 18%.

In spite of the fact that the Internet remains the main search channel for a home, the real estate agents or APIs have increased slightly to 17% of those surveyed.

Asked about their main obstacles at the time of purchasing a home, those who find what they are looking for has gone down nearly 10 percentage points to 33% because nothing meets their expectations, while the difficulty of meeting the initial costs has increased to 35% of those surveyed.

The sensation of being "mortgaged for a long time (20%) and encountering unforeseen problems or glitches following completion of the purchasing process (19%) stand out among the main concerns when purchasing a home.

When renting, price is the main concern, as 38% believe the prices are very high in city centers and 27% that they are very high in metropolitan areas.
